Where Torrevieja's drinking water comes from

Torrevieja does not have its own water resources to meet the needs of the town’s inhabitants, so water is supplied from outside the municipality.

The water supply is provided by the Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla (MCT).

The water provided by the Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla originally comes from surface flows from the Taibilla River, a tributary of the Segura River, as well as from the Mediterranean Sea through the desalination plants of Torrevieja and San Pedro del Pinatar.

Currently, the Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla supplies 100% of the water to the supply, through 2 direct intakes or through the reservoirs of the MCT itself. These intakes come from the so-called Canal del Campo de Cartagena and from the regulation reservoirs that the MCT has in the Vega Baja.

You can check the origin of the drinking water in your municipality on the SINAC (National Drinking Water Information System) website
